2024 Girls Tennis Finalists
Claire Bean and Handley McAtee
Kennett with Holcomb
Kennett junior Handley McAtee and Holcomb sophomore Claire Bean won their second-consecutive state championship this fall, finishing as partners with a 34-0 doubles record. McAtee's season concluded with an unbeaten 13-0 singles record, and Bean secured a 13-1 singles record. As a team, Kennett with Holcomb made it to the Class 1 State Quarterfinals.
Christi Tejada
Kennett with Holcomb
Kennett senior Christi Tejeda finished her career with the team with a 21-3 singles record and qualified for the Class 1 Singles State Tournament. After winning a hard-fought sectionals matchup, Tejeda's run at the championship ended in the state quarterfinals. She was also a part of the Kennett with Holcomb team that won the Class 1 Team State Championship last year.
Abby Haley & Maggie Hillin
Saxony Lutheran
The duo of Maggie Hillin and Abby Haley once again had a huge year for the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders. The pair reached the quarterfinals of the Class 1 State Doubles Tournament and they played an instrumental role in Saxony Lutheran finishing the season 14-6 overall. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the duo is that they will return in 2024 for their senior seasons where they look to continue the success they’ve had the previous two seasons.
Vita Galati & Suna Mungee
Notre Dame
One of the best duos in the area, Vita Galati and Suna Mungee once again had another memorable season in 2023. The duo led the Bulldogs to the Class 2 State Tournament with both their on-court play and their leadership. The duo is sure to leave a big hole for the Bulldogs in 2024 as they graduate.
Kaitlyn Booker
Poplar Bluff
During her junior season, Kaitlyn Booker helped the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules tennis team reach one of their best team records in recent years, finishing 10-4 on the season. Booker finished with a 9-3 record on the season individually, placed second in the SEMO conference tournament and won the Class 2 District 1 girls singles championship for the second-straight year. At the Class 2 Singles State Tournament, Booker managed to get out of the first round, winning 6-4 in both sets.
