2024 Girls Golf Finalists
Olivia Thetford
Poplar Bluff
Thetford had several top-three finishes this season, which one occurred when she tied for second when the Lady Mules hosted Jackson, Notre Dame and Farmington in a quad-match. Thetford carded a 77 at the Class 3 District 1 tournament and finished second overall. She finished her final round at this year’s MSHSAA Class 3 Girls Golf State Tournament, where she shaved 29 strokes off of last year’s score to finish in a tie for 11th to be the first Poplar Bluff girls golfer to earn all-state honors.
Grayson Maurer
Notre Dame
Maurer was one of the best golfers in the area as she saw lots of success in her sophomore year. Maurer was key in the Bulldogs’ team success and also saw her own success as she finished fourth in the Class 3 District 1 Tournament.
Alana Gilbert
Jackson
Gilbert showed why she has been considered one of the best golfers in Southeast Missouri in 2023 as she impressed once again. Gilbert led the Indians to a fourth-place finish in Class 4 and also finished third place individually in Class 4 District 1. Now graduated, Gilbert will continue her golf career at Indiana State University.
Eliza Barnette
Notre Dame
Barnette had a solid season for the Bulldogs on the golf course. Her success individually played a crucial role in the season Notre Dame had as a team. Barnette was a top 10 finisher at the Class 3 District 1 Tournament which was good enough to qualify her for the State Tournament. At the State Tournament, Barnette finished 25th, a respectable finish for the junior.
Julia Schlitt
Jackson
Schlitt proved to be a consistent piece for the Jackson Indians golf team in 2023. Schlitt showed out at the Class 4 State Tournament where she shot a two-day total of 164 to help propel the Indians to a fourth-place finish. Her two-day total of 164 was also good enough to see her finish inside the top 30 individually in Class 4. Schlitt still has two more years with the Indians and is sure to once again be one of the top golfers in Southeast Missouri.
