Reed Layton once again had another year to remember for the Woodland Cardinals. Layton won the Class 2 State Championship with a time of 16:25.2, a time that was 11 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Layton’s efforts to win the individual title were enough to propel Woodland to their first team State Championship as well.
Calvin Layton
Woodland
Calvin Layton, like his brother Reed, had an outstanding year for the Woodland Cardinals. Layton helped propel the Cardinals to their first-ever team state championship with a 4th place finish individually. On top of that, Layton also finished 2nd at the Heartland Conference Meet.

Carter Hennemann

Brock Hobeck

Hobeck paved the way in the Class 1 State meet for Oak Ridge as he finished 16th overall to earn his 3rd consecutive All-State medal. Hobeck’s 16th-place finish was good enough to help propel the Blue Jays to a 3rd-place finish overall.
Jackson Unterreiner
St. Vincent
Unterreiner was a big piece of the St. Vincent Indians cross-country program in 2023. Unterreiner ran to a 16th-place finish at the Class 2 State Championships to earn an All-State medal. Unterreiner also helped the Indians finish 3rd at the Class 2 District 1 meet by finishing 8th overall.
Ty Wilson
Oak Ridge
Like his teammate Brock Hobeck, Ty Wilson also had a memorable year for Oak Ridge. Wilson ran to a 21st-place finish in the Class 1 State meet to earn an All-State medal. Wilson missed medaling a year ago by one place, so 2023 served as redemption for Wilson. His efforts also assisted the Blue Jays in a 3rd place team finish at the Class 1 Championships.
