2023 Boys Cross Country Finalists
Ben Dowdy
Dexter
Dowdy placed 10th at the Class 3 District 1 meet with a time of 17:03.7, then took 23rd at the Class 3 state meet for Dexter in November with a time of 17:05.7. More than that, he was a key member of a Bearcats team that made it state for the first time since 1971.
Reed Layton
Woodland
A junior, Layton finished fourth in Class 2 with a time of 16:58.1. Layton was a key contributor in Woodland’s success in 2022 and he looks to continue that trend as the Cardinals get set for 2023.
Calvin Layton
Woodland
A freshman, Layton finished 21st in class 2 to pick up his first class 3 medal. Calvin, the brother of Reed, was also a big contributor for Woodland in 2022.
Mason Morris
Notre Dame
Morris ended his career as a member of all-state for the second straight year. Morris finished with a time of 17:01.2 and in 21st place in class 3. Morris’ finish helped put the Bulldogs in 12th place.
Caleb Ricker
Van Buren
A senior, Ricker finished 11th at the Class 1 boys state cross country meet in November with a time of 17:34.3 and also was the Class 1 District 1 runner-up with a time of 16:56.9. He and teammate Jaxson Houf formed a solid 1-2 punch for a Bulldogs squad that took second in the state this past season.
Jaxson Houf
Van Buren
A junior, Houf finished 12th at the Class 1 boys state cross country meet in November with a time of 17:36.7 and before that, finished fifth in Class 1 District 1 with a time of 17:25.69. He and teammate Caleb Ricker formed a solid 1-2 punch for a Bulldogs squad that took second in the state this past season.
Bryce Gentry
Jackson
A junior, Gentry was the only all-state member for the Indians as he finished 17th with a time of 16:00.2. Gentry’s performance was key in Jackson taking home a fourth place trophy in Class 5.
Ryan Seabaugh
Cape Central
Seabaugh finished his high school career running his fastest race ever with a time of 16:20 to finish in 10th in Class 4. Seabaugh will continue his career at the Division I level when he goes to compete at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Brock Hobeck
Oak Ridg
Hobeck narrowly missed out on being an all-state member in his sophomore year but this year Hobeck finished 15th with a time of 17:46.7 to take home an all-state medal. Hobeck was the only all-state member for the Blue Jays.
Jackson Unterreiner
St. Vincent
Unterreiner was a key member of the Indians’ squad in 2022 and as a junior he looks to return and bring the same impact in his senior year.
