2016 Baseball Finalists

Cole Nichols

It was a banner year both individually and as a team for Nichols and his Cubs, winning a second consecutive Class 1 state championship. Nichols was named the Stoddard County Activities Association Conference Player of the Year while batting .500 with four doubles, four triples and 33 RBIs out of the leadoff spot. On the mound, he was 6-0 with an 0.71 ERA and 4.8-to-1 K-to-BB ratio.

Peyton Faulkner

Faulkner helped the Tigers set a school record for wins in a season while capturing the Bootheel Conference regular-season title. He was an offensive machine, batting .564 with 34 RBIs, 43 runs scored and a .635 on-base percentage. He had 21 extra-base hits and 24 stolen bases.

Bryce Alcorn

Alcorn had a good year with the bat, hitting .459 with 33 runs scored, but his impact on the mound was just as big, posting a 1.61 ERA with 110 strikeouts while walking just 29 batters. Those performances helped the Tigers to a district title and a push to the Class 3 quarterfinals.

Trynton Tompkins

A fixture in the Bear battery, the catcher hit .453 with a whopping 39 RBIs, six doubles and eight home runs. On the mound, Tompkins went 8-0 with a 3.52 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 46 innings while helping Greenville to a district title and a 20-2 record.

Jarrett Newell

Newell was the Indians’ biggest offensive threat, setting a school record with 42 hits in a season. He finished batting .365 with 31 rus scored an a .452 on-base percentage. He also posted a 5-3 record on the hill, with a 1.42 ERA and 41 Ks to 20 walks.

Garrett Siebert

Siebert helped fill a big void for the new-look defending state champions and helped the Bulldogs back to the Class 4 quarterfinals. The first baseman hit .389 with 25 RBIs, a .486 OBP and pounded out eight doubles.

Kameron Misner

The SEMO Conference Player of the Year and Mizzou signee — though he may be drafted before he gets to campus — had an OPS (on-base + slugging) of 1.422 while hitting .413, driving in 25 runs and scoring 36. He had nine doubles, eight triples, six home runs and 24 stolen bases. As a pitcher he was 4-2 with a 2.48 ERA, 48 strikeouts and 27 walks.

Braden Cox

Cox was a double threat while helping the Rams back to the Class 3 final four. In the batter’s box he hit .410 with 14 doubles and 16 stolen bases. On the pitcher’s mound he threw 56 innings — despite sparse usage early in the season — with 72 Ks to just 11 walks, posting a 2.38 ERA and a 7-2 record.

Kyle Moore

Moore was a first-team all-conference and all-district pick and the player that made the 16-6 Lions tick, whether as a game-changing defensive shortstop or a lights-out pitcher. On the mound he posted an 0.89 ERA with 1.4 Ks per inning. He also had a .415 OBP with 28 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.

Blake Wolferding

The Bulldogs’ biggest bat, Wolferding drove in 27 runs while hitting .351 with a .447 OBP. He also had eight doubles and a home run as Sikeston went 17-8.
