2018 Girls Tennis Finalists
Hattie Burdin
Notre Dame, Senior
Burdin was a solid No. 2 player for the Bulldogs, compiling a record of 12-5 in singles competition. She made a strong push at the Class 1 District 1 singles tournament, finishing third, and earned a quarterfinal berth in the SEMO Conference Tournament. Burdin placed second in singles action at the Sikeston Invitational, runner up to only teammate Grace Powderly.
Darcy Campbell
Kennett, Junior
Providing the Indians with their always-strong depth, Campbell went 10-1 in singles to help drive her team’s success. As part of the squad’s No. 2 doubles team, she was a sectional and state qualifier, and finished second in the district tournament, behind only the duo of teammates Anna Beth Williams and Kayton Harris.
Kayton Harris
Kennett, Senior
Harris was beaten only once in singles competition, going 12-1, while also pairing with Williams to great success on the doubles court. It was in doubles competition where she helped the Indians top duo earn a district title and qualify for the state tournament, as well as nab a conference tourney championship.
Grace Powderly
Notre Dame, Senior
A two-time Semoball Awards finalist in tennis, Powderly went 18-1 in singles competition in the fall. Along the way, she earned a SEMO Conference Tournament singles championship and a district singles title. At the Class 1 state tournament, the senior made a run to the elite eight to wrap up her career.
Anna Beth Williams
Kennett, Senior
Williams took over the No. 1 spot for the Indians this year and helped to make sure the Indians did not miss a beat. Continued success came as the senior went 11-2 in singles and 27-4 in doubles, earning a district title in doubles as well as a doubles state qualification and SEMO Conference Tournament title. This is her second nomination for the Semoball Awards.
