2017 Girls Swimming and Diving Finalists
Phoebe Law
Cape Girardeau Central, freshman
Law made a major splash in her first season, making multiple state cuts. She was a conference champion in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events and swam in both at the state meet, where she finished 25th in the 100 free.
Megan Peters
Notre Dame, senior
Peters was a standout for the Bulldogs in her final year in the high school pool. She was a Show-Me Conference champ in the 100 butterfly, and swam in both the 100 fly and the 200 freestyle at the state meet, reaching her goal of swimming on the final day — she finished 16th in the 100 fly.
Taylor Norwood
Poplar Bluff, junior
The reigning Semoball Awards Girls Swimmer of the Year offered up more top-level performances in her junior season. Norwood was a conference champion in the 200-yard independent medley and 200 backstroke. She made the state cut in seven individual events (the only two she didn’t, she didn’t even attempt). At the state meet, the Mule standout earned all-state finishes by swimming to an eighth-place finish in both the 100 fly and 200 IM.
Morgan McAtee
Poplar Bluff, senior
Another piece of a successful Mules team, McAtee qualified for the state meet in the 100-yard breaststroke for a fourth time in four years and set a new conference meet record in the event. She finished as a first alternate in the event at state, just outside the final day’s qualifying times. McAtee was also a part of Poplar Bluff’s 200 medley relay team, which finished 12th at state.
Raegan McAtee
Poplar Bluff, sophomore
Poplar Bluff, sophomore
The younger McAtee was a state qualifier in the butterfly and the backstroke as well as all three relay events — the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Her contributions in the 200 medley relay helped the Mules finish 12th at the state meet. She was runner-up in the 50 free and 100 fly at the Show-Me Conference meet, where she helped Poplar Bluff sweep the relay events.
